Welcome to the official web site of Aiken Woodcarvers. We hope you enjoy your visit.

The Aiken Woodcarvers Club has been formed to further locally the ART of woodcarving, , instruct novice woodcarvers, and provide information to the "Old Timers." We will meet on each Tuesday evening of each month at the Aiken Hobby Lobby. We expect to see many old faces and several new ones in the group.

Featured Artist: Vic Fricke Vic Fricke was born in Milwaukee on the same day as both Joe Namath and Dr. Ray Vaughters. After receiving a B.A in Physics from Northeastern University in Boston and an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue, he joined the US Navy during the Vietnam war. After three years of active duty, he remained in the Navy Reserve for an additional 20 years and retired as a Commander. Vic is married since 1965 to the same woman (some sort of record in these times) and they have two grown daughters. The eldest is a Human Resources manager at a company in Georgia, and the younger manages a department at the ESPN sports network in Bristol Connecticut.

Vic spent his civilian career first designing and building nuclear power stations, then after the Three Mile Island accident, cleaning up and decommissioning nuclear facilities. Since retiring from the Savannah River Site, he has turned his attention to web site development and making things out of wood. He is the webmaster for the Friends of the Aiken County Library, Lista Studio of Photography, The Sassy Knitter, and several others. (Editors Note: Vic will soon take over the Aiken Wood Carvers site).

Vic has been carving for about 2 years. During that time he has carved a navity and has become involved with the CSRA Wounded Warrior Project. Under his leadership of this venture, the Aiken Wood Carvers has joined other clubs across the nation to honor Wounded Warriors with leg injuries by carving functional or ceremonial canes for these heros. Some of Vic's work is show below.
